PPLD Programming for Arts Month
Get Creative at your Local Library
This October, in celebration of Arts Month 2022, the Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD), has all kinds of great ways to get creative and enjoy the arts. All sessions are free and open to the public, but advance registration is requested.
Bad Art Night
For Adults
All of the fun of making art with none of the pressure! Join us to create the most ridiculous pieces of art you can think of – from painting to collage to sculpture – while enjoying snacks and refreshments. At the end of the night, there will be awards for the most over-the-top bad artwork! All supplies will be provided. Come celebrate Arts Month with us in a judgment-free and glitter-heavy zone!

Pikes Peak Live!
For Teens and Adults
Pikes Peak Live! is an all-day event that consists of performing art workshops that will conclude with a talent show by the participants for the public. The day will start with a series of workshops where participants can choose to attend either poetry, music, or comedy workshops. Participants then will come together to present their works (panel style) where they’ll learn some tips and tricks on performing on stage. The day will conclude with a talent showcase where participants can take part and test the water by performing in front of an audience. The showcase is open to public viewing.

Drop-In Clay
For ages 9 to Adult
Come to the Sand Creek Library makerspace to experiment with clay at this fun and informal drop-in session. All skill levels are welcome. We’ll supply the clay; just bring yourself! A volunteer will be on hand to help and inspire. Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration necessary – come drop in and play with clay!

Drop-In Watercolor
For ages 9 to Adult
Come to East Library to experiment with watercolors at this fun and informal drop-in session! No registration necessary and all skill levels welcome. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself! A volunteer will be on hand to help and inspire. Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Creepy Doll Planters
For 18+
Plants aren’t just a summer thing! Get creative and creepy with this festive planter! Using an old toy doll, cut open a head, upcycle the body, or decorate a planter at home with hands. We’ll provide seeds to take home to grow for the winter months.

Mini Pumpkin Decorating
For ages 9-12
Transform a mini pumpkin into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece! We will have everything you need to decorate a pumpkin for fall. Registration required.

For ages 5-12
Use your creativity to paint and decorate rocks to hide around outside or display at home!

Kimmy Cantrell Inspired Relief Mask
For ages 7-13
Design and assemble a colorful relief mask with an expressive, asymmetrical face. Use a variety of art materials to create bold, exaggerated eyes and whimsical features to complete your one-of-a-kind decorative work of art! Registration required.

Take and Make: Day of the Dead Masks
For Adults
Make a mask honoring Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, a celebration of life and death held all over Latin America with colorful calaveras (skulls). Limit one kit per household, while supplies last.
